Connecting People & Science

At KOI, we create vibrant, hands-on science communication experiences that go beyond sharing facts. We design interactive moments that spark curiosity and make science feel personal, relevant, and engaging.

Our approach is rooted in participation. We invite people to explore scientific ideas through real-world activities and carefully designed immersive experiences. By focusing on positive, inclusive framing, we create space for meaningful conversation and encourage people to think, question, and get involved.

Whether working with the public, schools, policymakers, or stakeholders, our goal is to empower people to better understand science and feel confident taking informed action on the issues that matter most.

Who we are

We’re Sara and Michele, and we run KOI as an innovation-driven science engagement company. We’re constantly hungry for new ideas, new formats and better ways to connect people with science. In a world saturated with content and smartphones, we believe live, shared experiences matter more than ever. Real engagement happens when people are present, involved and invited to participate, not when they’re scrolling.

We met at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, working on public engagement around a Europe-wide scientific expedition that reached audiences in 16 countries and 24 languages. That work continues to shape our approach: ambitious, collaborative and unafraid of experimentation.

We like to test ideas. We like to play. And yes, sometimes that means doing slightly crazy things, if that’s what it takes to create engagement that feels human, meaningful and memorable.

Testimonials

"I really loved the way we were encouraged to push the limits, get wild, and really have fun with the experience. It immediately took away some of the stress going into it!" - Workshop participant, Innovation & Creativity

"Unlike most outreach activities that I have attended, that are very passive, I thought that they really involve people. As a scientist involved in many outreach programs, I can really see the difference working with a team of experts in public engagement." Scientific researcher, event participant

"Sara and Michele were asked to prepare a workshop on storytelling for our master students in biomedical sciences, and they did an excellent job. The preparation with Sara was fast and responsive, clearly formulating the goals of the workshop. And the performance by Michele was very enthusiastic, with many diverse interactive assignments that really motivated our students and showed them the importance of storytelling."
